Did You Know?

The Mother's Day House & Garden Tour is the Museum District's largest fund-raiser.  Proceeds from the tour help pay for many important things, like playground equipment, landscaping, and the MDA Street Sign Project (see the article in the newsletter). This year, the House Tour Committee will be directing a portion of the proceeds from the 2009 tour to Albert H. Hill Middle School.

Albert Hill, located at 3400 Patterson Avenue and a stop on this year's tour, is the only public school within the boundaries of the Museum District. It is both an architectural treasure and a vibrant and challenging learning environment for our community's youth. Click here to learn more about the school.

Mr. Michael Kight, principal of Albert Hill, does an outstanding job of running this first-class school on a tight budget but there are still a number of unmet needs.  Judy Deal, house tour committee member, worked with Mr. Kight to identify the best way for the committee to make a difference.  Proceeds from the 2009 Museum District Mother's Day House & Garden Tour will be directed toward an interior need, such as art supplies or text books as well as an exterior need, such as landscape improvements or a fresh coat of paint. So you can feel extra good about buying a house tour ticket knowing that you are not only going to have a wonderful time, you're also making a real difference right here in our neighborhood! Won't Mom be proud?
