Street Cleaning

Make sure your car is not towed!

Did you know…………

The City cleans our streets three or four times each year.  Periodic maintenance is done to trees, streets and alleys. The Museum District Association also asks the City to clean certain streets to better showcase our neighborhood before our Mother’s Day House and Garden Tour each May.

Street Cleaning schedule

For all of these activities, the City will put up No Parking – Towing Enforced signs so that the street is clear for them to perform related tasks. We as residents must be alert at all times to avoid having our cars towed. The City’s practice is to provide 48 hours notice before towing cars, however, the timeframe may be shorter.

According to Britt Drewes, with the Department of Public Works:

The City’s parking requirement states that ‘"No Parking" signs shall be erected a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the beginning of any work in the streets including street construction, tree work and street cleaning.'  DPW makes it a practice to post signs at least 48 hours in advance as a courtesy for our residents.

If you will be out of town overnight or away from your home or business for any reason, we strongly advise that you make sure a neighbor or friend has access to your keys in case your car needs to be moved for any reason.

Towing fees are hefty, and owners are charged a storage fee for each day the car remains at the tow lot.
