Help Our Street Trees Survive the Summer Heat!
This summer's heat and drought have taken hold, and while we all could use some relief, our newly planted street trees need it even more. The trees planted last fall and winter are particularly vulnerable to drought stress because their root systems have not had a chance to become fully established.
If you have a yong tree near your house, please stretch a hose or carry a couple bucketfuls of water to the tree once or twice a week if there is no rainfall or if there is a period of extreme heat. Letting the hose run slowly or pouring slowly enough so the water soaks into the soil rather will help young trees tremendously.
Our street trees make our neighborhood beautiful and more livable! Contact mdaenvironment@museumdistrict.org for more information..
The MDA Wants You To Adopt-A-Tree - And We Will Pay Half!
.jpg)
The MDA wants to plant more trees in our neighborhood and we will pay half the cost if you sign up for the Adopt-A-Tree Program! The tree canopy in Richmond is one of the most vital aspects of urban living. Trees help keep houses and yards cool, improve air quality, absorb rainwater, and help boost property values.
The MDA will contribute $25 of the required $50 tax-deductible contribution for a limited number of MDA residents participating in this year’s program. Participants agree to water the tree for the first two years.
Click here to learn more about the Adopt-A-Tree program and to print an application. If you would like to participate, please send the City’s application form along with your check for $25 payable to ENRichmond Foundation to the Museum District Association at PO Box 7186, Richmond, VA 23221. Checks must be received by September 15, and trees will be planted later this fall when the weather cools. Contact mdaenvironment@museumdistrict.org for more information.
