Annual Meeting Special Guest: Len Archer and K-9 Ellie

We look forward to hosting our 2012 Annual Meeting on November 15th starting at 6 p.m.. at Temple Beth El (3330 Grove Avenue).  As in years past, there will be a great opportunity to mix and mingle with neighbors and city officials.  Additionally, we will be having two special guests with us this year: Richmond Fire Investigator Len Archer and K9 Ellie will be going through special demonstrations of their work as an arson detection team for the Richmond Fire Department.

Len Archer has been a member of the City of Richmond Department of Fire & EMS for 27 years.  Certified as a fire investigator in 2004 and then K9 handler in 2010, Len has been trained with Labrador retrievers, educated in accelerant detector K9 handling and training, and certified through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

In 2010 when Len was first certified as a K9 handler, he was partnered with K9 accelerant dog “Ellie”, a black Labrador, who had been donated to the department from State Farm Insurance.  After five intense weeks of training, both arrived back in

Richmond and immediately became a hit with department members.  It became clear that “Ellie” and her handler make a great team. Not only is Ellie certified every year by the Maine State Police, but she is also certified by an independent chemist as having the ability to discriminate among a variety of odors.  She has already assisted neighboring jurisdictions; and she and Investigator Archer are known for their contribution to five Arson convictions.

Please plan to come out on November 15th to meet Len and Ellie and to see them in action.

The Annual Meeting is a member-only event.  Membership dues can be paid at the door.
